Insightful Corporation Announces Financial Services Enterprise Deployment Win

Multi-billion dollar fund of funds utilizes S-PLUS platform for enterprise deployment of analytic models initially prototyped in R

Seattle, WA - April 8, 2008 -

Insightful Corporation (NASDAQ: IFUL), a leading provider of predictive analytics and reporting solutions, announced today that a fund of hedge funds in Europe, managing assets worth billions of dollars, has chosen the S-PLUS® enterprise platform for deployment of proprietary analytic models originally prototyped in R, the free open-source dialect of Insightful’s S language. The fund made a significant investment in S-PLUS licenses, including S-PLUS Enterprise Developer, S-PLUS Enterprise Server and S+FinMetrics®. The fund adopted S-PLUS primarily to gain robust and scalable server-based technology not available in R.

The benefits of migrating to Insightful’s S-PLUS platform include:

* A robust and scalable server architecture and database connectivity
* Reliable server-class software that is easy to manage in a production environment
* A commercially supported and well-tested predictive analytics platform, guided by specialist consultants experienced in optimizing code performance
* Scalability in both the range of financial modeling and the use of more powerful hardware
* Commercial support and maintenance

“We believe that this engagement is representative of a broad market opportunity for analytic reporting and server deployment to large data sets and increasing numbers of analytic users,” said Jeff Coombs, president and CEO of Insightful. “Companies currently using R or S-PLUS for prototyping analytic models are increasingly looking for an enterprise-scale analytic modeling and reporting platform, such as S-PLUS, for enterprise deployment.”

S-PLUS Enterprise: Commercial support for cutting-edge statistics

The S programming language, originally developed at Bell Labs (later Lucent Technologies), is a de facto standard among statisticians for the development of predictive analytic models. Insightful owns the copyright to the software code underlying the S language. Insightful’s mission is to bring the predictive analytics benefits of the S language to increasing numbers of users across commercial organizations, through enterprise server and analytic reporting deployments of predictive analytics.

The S-PLUS Enterprise platform provides extensive value-add capabilities on top of the base S language:

* Enhanced Development Environment for Streamlining Development of Statistical Applications: S-PLUS 8 includes the S-PLUS Workbench, an integrated development environment designed to manage larger projects and enable development teams to create rigorous applications faster than ever before.
* Interactive Graphics: S-PLUS 8 provides an interactive graphics system with a large and normalized palette for the creation of statistical charts to exact specifications.
* Customized, Automated Reports: An XML reporting library speeds development of customized reports incorporating statistical tables and publication-quality graphics.
* Enterprise-wide Access to Analytics: Once created on the desktop, applications can be seamlessly deployed onto the S-PLUS Enterprise Server to deliver results and reports across an enterprise, within existing applications or specialized web-based portals. Built with an open architecture meeting modern IT standards, the S-PLUS 8 Enterprise Server provides an easy-to-deploy and cost-effective platform for advanced analytics, with a fully documented Services Oriented Architecture.
* Scalable, Secure and Robust Production: Using out-of-memory processing, not available in R, and providing support for load balancing across server clusters, S-PLUS 8 Enterprise Server will scale to handle large data sets. S-PLUS 8 Enterprise Server also supports single sign-on/pass-through authentication.
* Utilize the Latest in Statistics Research: With the S-PLUS package system, new in S-PLUS 8, users can convert R packages for use within the commercially supported environment of S-PLUS.
